Biography

Floex (Tomáš Dvořák) is a clarinettist, composer, producer and multimedia artist from Prague, Czech Republic. His music is distinctive by unique exploration of electro-acoustic field and deep atmospheric mood of the tracks. As well as releasing albums, Floex is experimenting beyond the linear music scenarios, creating unique multimedia installations and live performances. He is perhaps best known for his scores to video games, which feature his characteristic rhythmic use of electronic and acoustic instruments.

Dvořák released two full length albums ‘Pocustone’ (2001), ‘Zorya’ (2011) and the ‘Gone EP’ (2014). Both received several prestigious awards (3 Czech Angel Awards, Nomination to Europian Qwartz Awards, Nomination to Apollo and Vinyla Awards). In 2018, he collaborated with composer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Hodge on a full-length album, A Portrait of John Doe (Mercury KX), creating a new level of synergy where classical music and radical “avant-garde” electronic blends into unique organic universe, which they have toured around Europe to great acclaim. In 2021, he collaborated again with Hodge on the soundtrack for Je suis Karl, a German drama film directed by Christian Schwochow which premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival.

He is well known for his cooperation with Amanita Design on the soundtracks for the games Samorost 2 (2006), Machinarium (2009) and Samorost 3 (2016). The Machinarium OST gained massive reaction by both fans and critics, and made Tomáš music known internationally.

Tomáš is also author of several unique interactive music multimedia installations and performances (RGB, Crossroad, Live Score, Archifon serie with Initi) which he has been creating since 2002.  These works have been presented on international festivals like Ars Electronica, Sonica, and Nuit Blanche Bruxelles.
