Joel Cadbury

Biography

Joel Cadbury has been living and working in East London as a composer for over 15 years. With a career spanning film, commercials, documentaries, dance, drama, he has also been recognised as an established singer, songwriter and performer with the bands sOuth and UNKLE.

Hit TV shows including Six Feet Under and The OC found good use for South’s striking electronic pop-rock stylings, while top British director Jonathan Glazer put Cadbury and co together with Lavelle’s musical alter-ego, Unkle, to score cult gangster film Sexy Beast. The breakthrough score for Joel – Michael Winterbottom’s chiller thriller The Killer Inside Me, started a fruitful relationship with the director which led him to also work on The Face of an Angel and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Other film credits include Northern Soul coming-of-age drama Soul Boy and Brit heist caper Comes a Bright Day.

Cadbury has also written music for commercials for brands such as Tiffany, Bentley, Ford, Co-Op and Playstation.

In 2013 he wrote the score for Borderlands, choreographed by Wayne McGregor and commissioned by the San Francisco Ballet. He continues to collaborate with McGregor, and in 2018 he composed Winged Bull in The Elephant case, performed at the National Gallery and created a bespoke piece for contemporary clothing brand, COS.
