Kieran Brunt

Biography

Kieran Brunt is a classically trained singer, composer, and producer based in London, who studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge.

A diverse musician working across a broad range of genres, Brunt is the composer for the vocal ensemble Shards, whose debut album ‘Find Sound’ was released on Erased Tapes in 2019. He also performs in electronic duo Strange Boy, whose upcoming album includes collaborations with Nico Muhly, Clark, Richard Formby, and the London Contemporary Orchestra.

Brunt has become one of the most sought-after collaborators in his field, working with Terry Riley, Michael Price, Luke Howard, Anna von Hausswolff, Gawain Erland Cooper & Nils Frahm, who invited him to arrange and record the vocal elements of his breakthrough album ‘All Melody’ in 2018 with Shards.

Other recent work includes additional scoring and arrangements for TV series Soulmates (AMC), and in 2020 a commission from BBC Radio 3 to compose ‘The Rising Sea Symphony’, a large-scale experimental work performed by Shards and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The piece was nominated for the Prix de Rome and was followed by a second commission, ‘The Virtual Symphony’, in 2021.

Brunt is Composer in Residence at the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, where upcoming projects involve a large work for The King’s Singers and a new song cycle, The End of Infinity, composed in collaboration with JFDR and Benjamin Glorieux.
